Review Domaine d'Enghein:Magnificent to behold, the ÔDomaine d'EnghienÕ is a visual delight. Hand woven in Belgium the artisans have done a fantastic job. The tapestry material has been blended in a mix of 70% cotton and 30% viscose. The water fountain and the water bodies in the background make for a pretty picture. Overgrowing trees with abundance of foliage and an imperial structure in the backdrop depict the park of Enghien that had been sold by Henry IV of France to the d'Arenberg family in the year 1607. The tapestry takes its inspiration from the "Les Maisons Royales" series. Seen in this work is the chateau built in the early 20th century by financier and industrialist Baron Francois Empain, in a neo-classical style. Designed as a wall hanging, the piece exemplifies Ni Luh Suryati's delicate traditional designs. These cloths are believed to hold magical and protective powers, often forming part of the village's ritual costume. A mahogany wood rod tastefully displays the tapestry in any setting. The spectacular geringsing textiles of Tenganan village in Bali are elaborated using the double ikat method. Ikat means "to knot" in Indonesian and Malay, and it is a time-consuming process known only to a handful of weavers around the world. Hand-spun cotton is initially dyed yellow using an extract of the kemiri nut. Once woven, sections of the fabric are bound together with raffia, creating a tight knot resistant to the dyes in which the piece is to be placed. This tie-dye process is carried out for each successive color, as the artisan uses indigo for the blue tones and root barks for the spectacular vermilion hue.
